Speed Limit Enforcement
Slowing down to save lives
In January 2018, ImagineLaw, in collaboration with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), issued Joint Memorandum Circular No. (JMC) 2018-001 with a template speed limit ordinance to assist local government units (LGUs) in enforcing speed limits and implementing effective speed management strategies.
Since then, ImagineLaw has been providing technical assistance and trainings to LGUs to help them enact speed limit ordinances according to their local road conditions. To support the implementation of the JMC 2018-001, ImagineLaw, in partnership with the Global Road Safety Partnership and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific funded by the United Nations Road Safety Fund, trained local enforcement officers in best practice speed enforcement and speed enforcement planning, guided by international practices.
